Goodbye, Lola D

Hubby’s grandmother passed away three weeks ago. She died at 90+ years old. She was not really sick because she had illnesses or other condition, she was weak because she was old already. Her long life can be attributed to healthy living and healthy eating.

Healthy eating is something we take for granted, in favor of yummy eats that clog the arteries, fatten the liver, make blood sugar high and do unwelcome things to the body. Would you rather do funeral planning guide for your love ones or spend a longer time with them?

A nutritionist once told us in a talk and cooking demo that the best way to go would be to die a natural death than die with tubes attached to the body. The former was how Lola D left.

Belated Father’s Day Post

Father’s Day came and went but we weren’t able to celebrate because the husband has to be away for family matters. I was left behind to attend to the kids since this week was the first week of school.

june22

It doesn’t really matter if we celebrated or not, we try to show how we love each other day in and day out. There’s no doubt that the children adore their father and that he in turn, loves them so much.

Live each day as if it’s your last. It may be a bit harsh but we can’t turn back the clock and feel we have not done enough to show we love our family.

Green juice, anyone?

juice

This is a combination of pechay, cucumber and coconut juice. Definitely a healthy thirst quencher.

Fresh Juice Drinks

I believe we started the New Year right because we added something new in our food intake: fresh fruit juice everyday. The children drink these fresh fruit juice too and so does the husband.

So far we only missed a weekend of not drinking because we were away at that time.

I still have to feel the benefits and see major changes (hello sexy lingerie, lol/joke) though but one thing for sure, that painful feeling on my shoulder joints are long gone.

We Love Lemongrass

We have been using lemongrass in more ways than one.

For the kids, the product Stingless Citronella Oil to ward off the mosquitoes that may cause dengue.

For cooking, we love lemongrass in mussels, chicken tinola and Hainanese Chicken.

For drinks, I put lemongrass stalks in juices and even in water to make it more refreshing. When I have allergies, I drink a cup of warm water, steep a stalk or a little  bulb of lemongrass, a tablespoon of honey and a garlic slice in the water to relieve myself from all these uncomfortable feeling. It works like a miracle!

I still have a lot to read about the benefits of lemongrass on skin care if it works fine with skin conditions like the way psoriasis products or skin cleansing products work.

I know lemongrass can be used for pets with fleas and help sooth tired muscles.

We love lemongrass. Obvious, isn’t it?

Signed Up to Run

I’ve signed up to join a run in November. It has been months or years perhaps since I’ve done my morning rounds where we live. Not that I am lazy or anything (who am I kidding?) but I feel going out is something I don’t really look forward to since there are so many undesirable characters roaming the streets.

The kids and I are supposed to enroll in fitness programs but since these have started already and we will miss a couple of sessions if we enroll, hubby and I decided to defer. One of the kids want to enroll in soccer and running while the other one likes swimming. Swimming is not a good idea at this time of the year because the weather is erratic and the water could get very cold. I know for a fact that these pools raypak heat pump of any other heating system.

I still hope we can enroll next semester so we will start scrimping here and there to be able to have everyone enjoy a class. Or maybe two.
