Keep Christmas With You

Advent is over. The giving of gifts over and done with (except for some). The tree is back in its box. The festive curtains and throw pillows, table covers have been washed and folded.

The real challenge after the Christmas season is to continue the good that you did during the Christmas season:

  • Will you still be generous?
  • Will you still have joy in your heart?
  • Will you still easily forgive others?
  • Will you still be patient?
  • Will you still feel the love you seasonally feel for others?
  • Will you still go to church?

I remember one of my favorite Christmas songs, “When Christmas time is over and presents are away, don’t be sad. There’ll be so much to treasure about this Christmas time and the fun we’ve had… Keep Christmas with you all through the year”

I know there are those who don’t feel ok about not getting the correct patagonia capilene, THAT particular gadget, or maybe a certain shoe brand. These bring happy memories, yes, but what is important is that you are loved and you love back.

For me, it is more important remember the feelings and lovely memories and not the gifts.

Holiday Cheers

Dear self:

Holiday cheers does not just mean the fun holiday greetings we give to our family and friends. Holiday cheers mean a lot of eating, partying and other festive activities focused on more eating.

For people who are very much conscious of managing their weight, always asking themselves what is weight management that will best help them lose the pounds, the holiday season is one that is not really welcome. I know that for sure.

Here are a few tips I need to remember to avoid doing a binge during the holiday get-togethers:

  • keep everything in moderation and that includes the food serving and for some, the booze
  • eat first before going to a party so you don’t feel hungry and tempted to try all the delicious food on the table
  • drink plenty of water
  • learn to say “NO”

Not because New Year is coming means you have another chance to get that resolution another go. No need to do a resolution you are bound to do year after year.

Ouch!

Ouch! That is what I always say everytime I get down from the bed every morning. That “Ouch!” is an understatement because it is more like “Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!”

I have heel spur. I haven’t been to a doctor since I first felt it several months back. I have read a lot of information and asked sporty friends for the best heel pain relief.

What I do is I wear this ankle strap because I can’t find any arch strap being sold in the many sports stores and drugstores I have been to. I also bought a “heel spur friendly” walking flip-flops from Skechers. At night I massage my foot with oil.

my foot

The pain is less now. I can only feel it when I walk for a long time without the ankle strap either because I forgot to wear it or I am wearing shoes that can’t fit if I wear the strap.

I still need that arch strap though.

Science Projects

Science being taught in school is exciting. The children get to experiment with a lot of things where some of the questions they have about the things happening around them are being answered.

I remember when we were still homeschooling: Science is one of the subject matter area that the children are looking forward to doing everyday.

Take for example today. My eldest child is going to a hardware store to buy some materials for an experiment: mirrors, digital ph meter, some glass slides among other things.

All around us is about Science and if we teach our children these things, then they not only learn but we get to pique their curiosities to learn more.

Matching Watches

The hubby and I want to have a pair of watches that match.

I like a certain brand for a pair of silver Swiss-made watches but I think the hubby has another idea and his idea includes saving for more than what I like calls for.

Watch Strap

A pair of TAG Heuer would be great though with three children still in school this pair will probably be better as a “great job” gift when they have all graduated.

Who knows, maybe we won’t purchase these ourselves but one of them will give these as gifts. 😀

Be Positive

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.” ? Mahatma Gandhi

We do not want to be surrounded by negative people who spew negativity a mile away from where they stand. We don’t want to listen to people telling us we can’t be what we want to be, listing down the things we can do wrong along the way to the fulfillment of our dreams or just them simply being negative about the simple things we should be enjoying.

So, you’ve met such people? You even wondered if they are under cymbalta or something like it to help them perk up a bit? You ever wondered how you became friends with one and for how long you can tolerate such behavior?

Here are a few tips that may make you look up on the brighter side of things:

  • Be positive even if there are people who are out to dim that positivism you exude.
  • Tune them out by thinking happy thoughts, not minding their rants or by simply avoiding being around them
  • If you can’t avoid being around these people, continue with your attitude of positivism and share your happy thoughts. Who knows, maybe a little of your sunshine would rub off on them and make them feel better

Be positive. Be happy, after all you only got one life to live, so why allow unpleasant things and thoughts to consume you?
