I Miss Summer

Now that school has started and I need to, have to, must wake up at 4am (or 4:30am when I have cooked food for packed lunch the night before), I admit to say, I miss summer. Yes, I miss summer with its super scorching days, snotty children from the informal settlers area playing on our front gate and cravings for halo-halo.

We planned to go camping last summer but we weren’t able to do anything like it. We have the necessities to do it, two tents, sleeping bags, eager children with lazy parents. Boo! We were even prepared to go all the way like get a pair of binoculars, portable lamp and camping stove. But nah, nothing came out of the plans.

So now I encourage my children to join the Scouting Movement in school to be able to experience how to be a camper and a Scout at the same time. I think that would be cool.

Tocilog

Tocilog = Tocino, Itlog and Sinangag. In this plate I used steamed rice, booo! I think this was a breakfast special served for dinner. Chicken tocino is home-made. I often use chicken breast fillet in the meals I prepare.

It is so easy to cook the chicken tocino, just heat chicken tocino pieces on a skillet with a little water then put a little oil when the water has evaporated a bit. It would have been nice to have grilled chicken cooked on an electric grill but this would do for those who are pressed for time like me.

Showing Off

I have a student who has an issue seeing men wearing undershirts or gym clothes when they are not in the gym anymore. He once asked me if these men are “showing off” their muscles, biceps and triceps and what-have-yous.

One time he even asked if these men take supplements or if they have natural testosterone which contribute to these muscle development.

I can not directly answer him I said because I honestly do not know. I also explained that he should not think of doing this himself, going to these people he doesn’t know, since it is not polite to ask these people questions like these.

He said he won’t. Won’t ask them but that doesn’t mean he now likes seeing them strutting around wearing these undershirts.

I am the Cook

I spent some time organizing my photos and saw the re-sized ones I have used in my blogs. I noticed that most food photos I have can be found in this blog and this other blog.

I may have to think about the best diet pill even if I am just looking at these photos 😀

I am not a great cook, nor do I pretend to be one. I can cook, yes, but my cooking is “just right” for the family’s consumption. It is when the children say that they like the food I prepared that makes my heart swell.

Oh, they would rather eat home-cooked meals they tell me.

Guatemala Sinkhole

People are talking about the recent shocking disaster known as the Guatemala sinkhole had everyone buzzing about the word.

Even my young children Googled the word sinkhole to read more about these phenomena. We (yes, I had to see what they were watching) even watched videos of places with sinkholes. It was sad to see homes falling in sinkholes and people perishing from these disasters.

I just hope nothing like this will happen soon.

Here is a list of the Top 10 Amazing Sinkholes (site cited by my eldest daughter)

Sweatshops

Before an ls2208 scans the price of clothes that you are buying,  have you ever thought about how these clothes were manufactured?

Have you ever heard of the word sweatshop?

Sweatshops are sweat factories, being called as such because the working environment is dangerous and difficult for the workers. There have been reports of child labor being enforced especially in developing countries or those considered as third world.

Here is a video of a shopaholic who visited India’s sweatshop. The sweat shop in the video seems to have better working environment compared to some.

We can’t stop child labor much as we can’t stop sweatshops from being put up one after another.

Here is another video about children in sweatshops.
