Halloween is Coming

Halloween is around the corner and kids are excited to go trick and treating! I am sure parents are thinking of costumes by now or have already readied what their kids will wear.

A friend once joked she does not need eye makeup anymore because she has dark circles under her eyes.

With the recent sad plight of this country, I really hope the children in the affected areas will get to enjoy Halloween. If not, I hope Christmas is something to look forward to.

Hand Washing

The first ever Global Handwashing Day was celebrated a few days ago, last October 15.

Why is it important to do hand washing?

Hand washing using a good antibacterial soap helps remove the dirt from our hands. This is one of the basic sanitation rules.

Hand washing helps prevent illnesses like diarrhea and other diseases that can transfer from the hand to the mouth.

This habit is not just for children but for adults as well.

As an aside, hand dryers are good ways to go with the handwashing to completely dry the hands before handling anything.

This is what I always tell the kids when we are out: “keep your hands to yourself, do not touch anything (door knobs, elevator floor numbers and escalator hand rails) that you don’t have too because you never know who else touched those things.”

And yes, always bring hand sanitizer or alcohol, just in case.

Prioritizing

A friend of a friend has canceled her trip abroad in lieu of the recent ill effects that the typhoons brought upon this country.

Her children were a bit disappointed because they will not be able to go on their Disney World vacations but they understand for they know how bad the situation is nowadays. At least they know they can still go there at another time and what matters most at this time is pouring their resources on people, loved ones who need their help.

Yes, times like these, we need to prioritize the more important issues we have on our plates.

How Do We Stand Up and Get Going After the Typhoons?

With so much devastation around caused by the two super typhoons that came to wreak havoc to this poor nation of ours, it seems that a lot of businesses (and that includes small businesses, franchises and even agricultural products from the northern Philippines) have been affected severely and will be affected in the days to come.

Yes, we still have to come to grips with what has happened after Ondoy (Ketsana) and now Pepeng came and brought more damage than we can probably imagine.

Lives were lost. Homes, entire villages and physical structures were buried in mudslides and landslides.  Severe damage to crops and properties happened. Roads and bridges are destroyed, damaged and not passable as of this time.

I know, deep in my heart that we will surpass these challenges but as a nation with scarce resources, corrupt officials, and dampened spirits, how can we say that we can right now?

How do we stand up and get going after all these has happened?

Green Salad To Go

foodfriday

(home prepared) vegetable salad to go

As I have written here and here, I don’t usually buy/order vegetable salad prepared somewhere else because it is easy and inexpensive to prepare these things from home.

This has Romaine lettuce, cheese cubes and tuna with light mayonnaise.
