Taking Photos of Food

Taking food photos is a bit tricky.

I admit this is what I need to work on, taking food photos. I have never quite made myself good at this. It is all trial and error of course, which makes me frustrated at times but I am willing to work on it.

This got me thinking about how to take better photos of food.

I think one of the things that make food photos look good is the way it was prepared. Food styling is an art in itself, I believe.

Another thing that makes food photos look good is the lighting. There are restaurants that have good lighting one would think they got maxim lighting stuff.

Let’s take a look at these two food photos that show how lighting make the food look better. These were not altered in any way except by cropping and putting my blog’s name on it:

Arni Sto Fornou or slow roasted leg of lamb served with potatoes and lemon au jus from Cyma in TriNoma during the Bloggers Spot Pass Food Tour last summer

This spread from Mamou in Serendra was for our perusal. I took photos here because the lighting was better than the one where the food were for taking photos. This reminds me that I have not written a post about this leg of the Bloggers Spot Pass Food Tour in Serendra, my bad. I have a post for the Spot Pass Bonifacio High Street Bloggers Food Tour restaurants though for the same blogger event

There are also restaurants with bad lighting that no matter how delicious the food is, and how well it looks, and how wonderfully it was presented, the photos do not do justice to the finished product and that is a sad thing.

I posted early because I have work tomorrow and may not be able to put my link.

On the Wooden Swing

One of the things that children do not experience these days is going to the park to play, well, at least, where we live. One either has to live in a gated community with complete amenities like a clubhouse and a playground or one has to go to malls and pay to play in these playgrounds. Most of the children around us do not have readily have access to a park or a playground. They usually play on the streets when school is out.

As a child, I remember going to the park at the plaza, the one in front of the church. My favorite spot was where the swings were located. I loved sitting on the swing, holding on tightly to the chains and kicking the ground to hoist myself up and down, feeling the wind on my face and on my hair.

Didn’t Robert Louis Stevenson write in a poem The Swing:

How do you like to go up in a swing?
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

I would like to have my own garden one day with wooden swing sets. Even if I would not be able to swing as swiftly and as strong as I used to, I would still sit on my swing and spend quiet moments with my love ones. I have seen several gardens where there are wooden swing sets which are just there as decorations and this saddens me so. Swings should be sat on, used and not used as decorations.

Would you like to sit on a wooden swing?

Shopping Tips for Clothes

Are you ready to go to weddings and formal parties at the drop of a hat? I am not.

In fact I would still need to shop for clothes for these formal occasions and to think I dread ding the task. No, not because I do not like to shop but because I do not readily get those clothes that are currently the trend.

When shopping for these clothes, it is best to have the style in mind to avoid getting something that is not the desired style.

Should the clothes be the most fashionable wear or sould it have classic lines and style? Should the clothes be made by famous names like Oscar de la Renta or by a budding designer? Should one buy during regular days or during a sale?

No matter what circumstances one is in, bear in mind that shopping for clothes can be fun if one knows how.

Chicken Fajitas

These are the fillings for the Chicken Fajitas, again from Burgoo. (Hey, Burgoo, I have blogged about your food several times already: here, here, here, here, and here)

The chicken fajitas come in a very hot pan. It comes sizzling hot. There are two kinds of sauces: salsa and sour cream plus cheese as extra toppings)

Yummy. This is good for two or three persons, depending on one’s appetite ๐Ÿ™‚
