Importance of Profile Pictures

Do you give importance to your online profile pictures?

Putting an online profile picture in your favorite social networking site is a must for your friends to “see” you.

Some put photos of themselves which during their teen years and so their friends during that time are able to recognize them pronto.

Some put their best current picture (of course, NOT the one with adult acne, lol).

Some put their blogs or website’s logo which is a good way to promote site traffic.

Online profile pictures are important because these represent who you are.

There are those who wish to remain a “shadow” or mysterious and don’t upload their photos. Their choice of course.

Watch and listen here to know about the importance of your profile pic.

Shopping for Digital Cameras

It is now officially summer in the country and I am sure a LOT of people are now canvassing stores, browsing websites and asking those “in  the know” about the best digital cameras available in the market today, within their budget of course.

I know a lot of people would drool over DSLR, thinking these cameras would make them great photographers. Hmmm… ok, I joined a group in Facebook that says: “Hindi Porke’t May DSLR ka ay Photographer Ka Na” which roughly translates to “Not because you have a DLSR means you are a photographer”

LOL, bitter.

Photography is one of the “in” things these days, aside from running a marathon, blogging and playing Plants Versus Zombies 😀

Still as they say, it is NOT the camera that makes you a photographer, its the way you take photos that makes you one.

Me? I’m not a photographer and I won’t even pretend that I am. I am a hobbyist 🙂

Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects

My kids and my students love playing Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects.

Not only do they get to look for the objects in the given lists but they also get to exercise patience, patience and more patience in finding the hidden objects.

They also get to know new words like C clamps, fleur de lis, fedora and licorice.

It gives one a sense of accomplishment when everything has been found and one moves on to the next level.

How do I know? I play the game too 🙂

How to Set Up Your Own Google Alerts

You may be curious if people are Googling your name or anything online about you like your blog or biz site. You want to be alerted if that happened so now you want to learn how to set up a Google Alert.

Let’s say for arguments’ sake that you are not that vain or curious enough to know if someone has been Googling you. Let’s say you are interested in various topics like potted cactus, seo tools, affiliate marketing and other topics of interest, this tool will still be useful in letting you know that a new post/article has been added for your reading pleasure.

How?

There is this application called GOOGLE ALERTS that alerts you in case the key words you find important to you are Googled. This definitely can include your name and who knows whatever aliases you might be using in the WWW.

Here is how to do it:

  1. Go to GOOGLE.COM
  2. Click on that small arrow on the upper left hand until the menu drops down with “EVEN MORE”
  3. Click “Even More” and you will be directed to this page.
  4. Under the “Search” on the left column, click “Alerts” and you will be directed to the Google Alerts page.
  5. You can now put in the key words that you want to be given an alert.
  6. The alerts will be emailed to you gmail account.
  7. No gmail? then create your own gmail account now!

If you had a difficult time with my instructions, then watch this video.

How was this helpful to me?

Some significant alerts are about these:

I got an alert about an article I wrote for a site and saw that a Multiply account copied my WHOLE ARTICLE! I let the editor know about it and they dealt with the blog owner.

I got an alert the other day ab out my photo (from another blog) used without my permission. I got an account with that forum  and saw my pic and I was able to take it down by changing the date of the post and putting the pic in my Flickr account.

There. I hope this article was helpful.

Formula 1 PC Game

We got a new hard drive for the pc but the pc seems to be not responding to the new hardware.

Hubby reformat the pc and my son was worried his game stats would be removed. Son doesn’t want that since he has worked hard to “beat” Formula 1 drivers in the games he plays. No way these stats would be removed.

F1

Good thing there is online backup for files that we were able to use for the meantime.

Hubby was able to tinker with the pc and son gets to save his stats. Everyone is happy. Yey!

Virus Alert on my Mobile Phone

I dread the hear the sound “tu-nut” whenever I am online because that means a worm/virus/what-have-you has been detected and it is trying its best to enter my computer. Hmhp! to that but at least I know my computer is protected during that period.

What I am worried about are the times that these virus go undetected. I have been meaning to transfer photos and videos from my mobile phone to my laptop when I always get this message: VIRUS ALERT! It is so frustrating that I have not been able transfer these files.

virus alert

I am currently looking for antivirus software that will not cause my pc to slow down  when I activate the program to see if this has done damage on my laptop. A cutting proactive program would be preferable too.

I use this phone for mobile browsing when I’m out of the house and for connectivity when the main internet connection in the house conks out.

There are so many ways virus can penetrate one’s pc and this includes suspicious emails that smell of phishing which can make one a victim of identity theft.
