End of the School Year Rewards

Some friends overseas are ecstatic as school-year end came because their children had school awards. I don’t doubt that’s likely to happen since Filipino children (well, not all of them of course) overseas have more discipline when it comes to studying.

One friend was even asking what would be good graduation gifts for boys she can give her sons. No, not the newest hand-held gadgets, was the consensus from us moms. We suggested books, new clothes, a mini-vacation and new toys!

My children have their own little rewards too at the end of each school year. It make them look forward to getting these little gifts especially when they’ve worked hard in school. 🙂

Father’s Day is Jose Rizal’s 150th Birth Anniversary

Tomorrow, June 19, 2011, is Father’s Day and I’m sure most people are going to celebrate this special day honoring their fathers.

This particular father’s day coincidentally falls on the 150th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal, this nation’s national hero. In a way, Jose Rizal is like a father to the Filipino Youth.

Like our fathers who, along with their own individuality and unique traits like picking the vegetables out of a meat stew, or re-reading books that have long been read or maybe even doing a weekly dusting old sports trophies they’ve won during their prime, Jose Rizal is not just an exceptional young man but a patriot, a true citizen and one who tries to excel in everything he does.

Just like our fathers.

Just like our fathers who work hard to provide for the families needs, Rizal worked hard to achieve freedom for the country.

Just like our fathers who patiently teach their children how to be good citizens, Rizal taught us, through his work how to love our country and fight for what is right.

Our fathers and Jose Rizal are all different from one another but looking at their traits, we will find similarities.

Chili-Mansi Pancit Canton

One day last week, the children were staying with their cousins and I was too lazy to cook for lunch.

Pancit Canton

I saw that the nearby sari-sari store is open so I went to buy three packs of chili-mansi pancit canton. I didn’t put all three packs of seasoning, I only used two packs.

Like it would make having this justifiable huh? But then again, I only have chili-mansi pancit canton once in a blue moon.

I had a glass of ice-cold Coke with this plate of chili-mansi pancit canton 😉 So much for healthy eating, lol.

Siniguelas

Got half a kilo of siniguelas when we bought several bags of Vienna Bakery Hopia last Sunday. There’s a bag of those hopia beside the water in the photo.

Siniguelas

I wished I bought more siniguelas though. Those in the photo are not everything in the batch of the half-kilo I got. Hubby said that half a kilo we bought seemed few. In other words, madaya ang kilohan.

Naku, alam nyo naman sa Quiapo, kahit nasa harap ng simbahan eh… yun na yun.

Paranoid?

Paranoid. Yes we are like that about home security.

We lock all doors at all times even if we are all at home. We lock the gates from inside when we are home. We look out when the dog is barking.

In fact we have been talking about getting home security systems since one of hubby’s clients is installing cctv in different public places. If it’s possible to get these services that has monitoring services and smoke detectors too at an affordable budget, we’d be investing in it.

Why would we not be paranoid about securing the home when we see people around who don’t look like they can be trusted. In fact some of these people used to hang out and drink (hard liquor) under the trees beside our home and thank God they haven’t been doing that for a while now.

There are gangs in the neighborhood, people who live a block away, beside the river where they’re not supposed to live. Why, just last month, the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) did a raid on the house across ours because the ones renting apparently are doing some kind of counterfeiting of bottled drinks. Sigh…

I know it sounds like I’m a judgmental person when it comes to these matters, I’d like to think I’m just concerned with the security of my love ones.

Toys in the Living Room

Am starting to de-clutter because the kids are not yet home from their vacation with my parents. Today I’m going to sort their toys. To make me work on it, I decided to have these toys in the living room, seeing them, seeing the mess and making me sit down finally and finish the task.

When I had a major de-cluttering in the library, I “unearthed’ a lot of documents, mostly from my graduate study files. There I re-read my paper about women’s rights, special education, other photocopied materials about children, playing, oxycontin detox and even insurance proposals that somehow found their way in the files.

I really need to finish these today especially since hubby and I are going to watch The Proposal in a BlueWater Day Spa cinema later. Woot!
