How Do We Stand Up and Get Going After the Typhoons?

With so much devastation around caused by the two super typhoons that came to wreak havoc to this poor nation of ours, it seems that a lot of businesses (and that includes small businesses, franchises and even agricultural products from the northern Philippines) have been affected severely and will be affected in the days to come.

Yes, we still have to come to grips with what has happened after Ondoy (Ketsana) and now Pepeng came and brought more damage than we can probably imagine.

Lives were lost. Homes, entire villages and physical structures were buried in mudslides and landslides.  Severe damage to crops and properties happened. Roads and bridges are destroyed, damaged and not passable as of this time.

I know, deep in my heart that we will surpass these challenges but as a nation with scarce resources, corrupt officials, and dampened spirits, how can we say that we can right now?

How do we stand up and get going after all these has happened?

Self-Service Payment Counters

For busy people and those who are on the go, there are self-service payment counters being offered in some stores. It works like the regular payment counters, with barcode scanners and all that stuff, except there is no one to help you.

Now, this is a good idea just in case you notice the cashier on the counter you lined up seems to be moving slower than usual.

Yes, cities have been espousing a lot of self-service, well, services. I just hope these will not jeopardize the services especially to those who are too lazy to do things better.

Me? I’d rather line up with that oh-so-slow cashier than scan my purchases and consume more time than I intend to spend there.

Have You Played Farm Town?

I have written in this post about playing Farm Town. I have been at it since June and it took me almost forever to reach level 30. To those in the know, I was able to get my greenhouse and gazebo yesterday, right after I got my new level. Woohoo!

FT (Farm Town) is not just a virtual game of plowing, planting and harvesting crops. Sure, there is also shopping for equipments, buildings and other things necessary to make the farm look real. There are cute animals too and who knows? maybe soon, we might be able to buy cattle supplies for them tee-hee!

I know of people who scoff at us for being happy with FT. I don’t mind, to each his own and frankly, we (my neighbors and I) are not enamored with this person anyway.

Forum Topics

Forums are everywhere in the net tackling topics like movies, tech reviews, weight losss supplements, parenting, love problems and a whole gamut of topic about anything and everything under the sun.

A while ago, a friend and I were talking about people who post in forums. We discussed a forum topic from a site we both don’t know anything about.

Apparently, one of the topics being talked about was a friend and whatever it took the haters to post something about this friend and for others to hate him without the benefit of the doubt is probably waaaay beyond me.

i have never really participated in forums and I know I may never know if I am good at it especially if it would mean bashing people behind their back without them knowing it and without them being able to defend themselves.

Sure, I can’t say I come clean and have not bashed someone else, whether intentionally or otherwise. But for people to talk about another people and everyone else and read about it and probably add more fuel to the fire? That is definitely foul and rude to say the least.

Has Fever Will Panic

One time, a friend and I were talking about the different trends in health care. We were baffled that even if modern science and medicine have progressed, there are still a lot of medical issues that still need more research and development.

There are still so many things to give focus to like the common flu and asthma, which is common to children and adults living in urban areas.

Cancer, of course, has claimed a lot of lives. The current scare about A(H1N1) is not something to take lightly. The situation of dengue cases in this country is also one that needs a lot of attention.

So many health issues to be wary about which causes a lot of sleepless nights to us parents who constantly worry about our children’s health.

We discussed how it used to be that when children have fever, this situation is not given a lot of attention. When children (and adults to) have fever these days, we get worried that a more complicated situation will follow.

For now, extra care should be done to avoid getting sick. As one tvc says: “Bawal magkasakit (Avoid getting sick) Why do I feel like my translation is not accurate?

Anyway, best to take extra care always.

Clean Up the Kitchen

For me, the most important areas in homes and restaurants, particularly in the kitchen, are the kitchen sinks. Of course, this is where all food preparations from washing the food to cleaning the utensils are done.

Although  not all the food photos I have here in this blog were not made in our kitchen, I must say that cleanliness and care in food preparation should be of utmost importance. And that goes to every kitchen.

I shudder just thinking about those icky yucky kitchen featured in some television shows with hidden cameras. Ewww.
