Do You Always Worry?

If you can’t sleep, then get up and do something instead of lying there worrying.  It’s the worry that gets you, not the lack of sleep.  ~Dale Carnegie

Yes, worrying has caused a lot of sleepless nights, dark circles under eyes, eyebags under eyebags, cranky day time behavior and becoming too tired the next day among others, to a lot of people.

I am not an exception.

When I worry I think I can even feel the white hairs popping out on my scalp and wrinkles starting to make their presence known. Yep, that bad.

Should we worry too much then? We can worry but if we have a game plan to counter possible setbacks with the things we worry about, then we  can relax a bit. If we plan ahead, then we know that we are in the right direction.

We need to control our life and not let our worries control us. We need to find peace amidst the chaos, as I have written before.

Life, after all, is too short to spend worrying.

Deciding to Quit Smoking

My father quit after so many years  of smoking. We wished he did it sooner but that is all water under the bridge now. When he did quit, he got sick, very sick. We are glad he recovered slowly is now healthy again. He even weighs heavier than before he stopped smoking and that is a good sign.

Here are some reasons for you (and someone you know) to consider about smoking:

  • bad smell: breath, hair, clothes (yes, you reek like an ash tray)
  • stained teeth
  • respiratory illnesses, cough, sore throat
  • wrinkles
  • faster heartbeat and raised blood pressure
  • lowered athletic ability
  • toxic chemicals in the smoke
  • risk of cancer
  • risk of heart disease
  • breathing problems
  • stomach problems
  • gum disease
  • dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn baby
  • when you get sick, you lose time doing and enjoying the things you love to do

So, would you still care for a smoke? I hope not.

Philippine Political Scene

The Philippine political scene is so colorful and interesting these days. So many wannabe presidents (and VPs too) for an election that is bound to happen (i am praying that it will).

With the country facing a lot of recovery and rehabilitation process now and in the years to come, it is a wonder anybody in his or her right mind would want to run the country.

Even before the candidates are to proclaim their candidacies, we have been bombarded with what-nots: streamers, Facebook and Twitter accounts, real and imagined, have exposure offering services which includes a cheap hour of free internet time to appearing in costly prime time airtime exposures.

I would not be surprised these candidates would offer holiday gifts, or maybe a trip to heaven and back, to win votes next year.

I am exaggerating of course. Am I?

Maybe I am exaggerating. You know, I can’t imagine how they, in their very busy schedule, find time to tweet, update their Facebook status and errr, answer tweets posted by others.

Ok, aides can do that for them, I know.

But still…I will just say, I’m shrugging my shoulders and rolling my eyes at the same time, LOL.

Halloween is Coming

Halloween is around the corner and kids are excited to go trick and treating! I am sure parents are thinking of costumes by now or have already readied what their kids will wear.

A friend once joked she does not need eye makeup anymore because she has dark circles under her eyes.

With the recent sad plight of this country, I really hope the children in the affected areas will get to enjoy Halloween. If not, I hope Christmas is something to look forward to.

Hand Washing

The first ever Global Handwashing Day was celebrated a few days ago, last October 15.

Why is it important to do hand washing?

Hand washing using a good antibacterial soap helps remove the dirt from our hands. This is one of the basic sanitation rules.

Hand washing helps prevent illnesses like diarrhea and other diseases that can transfer from the hand to the mouth.

This habit is not just for children but for adults as well.

As an aside, hand dryers are good ways to go with the handwashing to completely dry the hands before handling anything.

This is what I always tell the kids when we are out: “keep your hands to yourself, do not touch anything (door knobs, elevator floor numbers and escalator hand rails) that you don’t have too because you never know who else touched those things.”

And yes, always bring hand sanitizer or alcohol, just in case.

Prioritizing

A friend of a friend has canceled her trip abroad in lieu of the recent ill effects that the typhoons brought upon this country.

Her children were a bit disappointed because they will not be able to go on their Disney World vacations but they understand for they know how bad the situation is nowadays. At least they know they can still go there at another time and what matters most at this time is pouring their resources on people, loved ones who need their help.

Yes, times like these, we need to prioritize the more important issues we have on our plates.
