Backyard Gardening Projects

Hubby asked me why I haven’t started started the backyard garden since I pulled all the vegetable plants when the rains “ruined’ these. By ruined I mean the bitter gourd yield turned orange, the lemongrass wilted, the basil leaves got eaten by aphids and so on.

The seed packets are waiting. The not-soil pack is waiting for me too and I hope it has not expired (if there is such a thing) yet. The lovely colored pots are dusty already. And I can’t find my work gloves.

Excuses, excuses.

Oh wait, I started planting something yesterday, a pandan plant. I hope it will stay alive since I am not sure if it will thrive. If it lives, then we can have pandan rice everyday and pandan jelly and chicken wrapped in pandan leaves. Woot!

I used coffee grounds in the soil by the way, it is good for the soul soil.

Chocolate and Strawberries

foodfriday

There is something special about chocolate and strawberries (and cherries too)  together that seem perfect.

Chocolate and Strawberries

I am not sure exactly what happened here but the strawberries in this huge bowl of sweet and sinful chocolate mousse  seem to have vanished.

No, the strawberries and cherries didn’t plunge down into that abyss in the big bowl.

I Googled “chocolate + strawberries” and I got close to 4 million results. Wow.

Halloween is Coming

Halloween is around the corner and kids are excited to go trick and treating! I am sure parents are thinking of costumes by now or have already readied what their kids will wear.

A friend once joked she does not need eye makeup anymore because she has dark circles under her eyes.

With the recent sad plight of this country, I really hope the children in the affected areas will get to enjoy Halloween. If not, I hope Christmas is something to look forward to.

Hand Washing

The first ever Global Handwashing Day was celebrated a few days ago, last October 15.

Why is it important to do hand washing?

Hand washing using a good antibacterial soap helps remove the dirt from our hands. This is one of the basic sanitation rules.

Hand washing helps prevent illnesses like diarrhea and other diseases that can transfer from the hand to the mouth.

This habit is not just for children but for adults as well.

As an aside, hand dryers are good ways to go with the handwashing to completely dry the hands before handling anything.

This is what I always tell the kids when we are out: “keep your hands to yourself, do not touch anything (door knobs, elevator floor numbers and escalator hand rails) that you don’t have too because you never know who else touched those things.”

And yes, always bring hand sanitizer or alcohol, just in case.

Red Ribbon Grilled Ensaymada and Farmers Ham

When we went to attend Red Ribbon’s White Forest Cake presentation, we were treated to one of the newest addition to the bakeshop’s menu: Grilled Ensaymada and Farmer’s Ham.

grilled ensaymada and farmer's ham

This is a wonderful set that goes with the White Forest Cake. Finish off with a cup of coffee and I am blissfully and gastronomically happy.

That said, appetite suppressants can wait after this plate and this plate have been finished.

Burp! Excuse me.
