This Schoolyear

Time sure flies by so fast and now we have a college freshman.

I know this is an exciting time for the daughter and there would be times when testing the waters to see how far she can go and what she can achieve on her own will be put to test.

As for this school year, not only was the wallet getting thin so to speak, the hairline gets thinner too, and whiter if I may say so. The daily expenses, the school supplies, the books she needs to purchase (not sure where to get used college books so we just let her buy new ones, argh.

There are just so many requirements for college. One thing that makes me feel comfortable is the fact that the daughter brings to school food cooked from home.

We Love our HP Printer

We do a lot of printing at home with three children going to school. We currently have one college freshman, one high school freshman and a fifth grader.

Here is our home printer, an HP Deskjet P2480. We still have an older HP Laserjet printer in the storage.

HP printer

This printer serves as a scanner, copier and printer for our printing and file storage needs.

When it comes to printing a lot of colored pages though, we sometimes have these printed out from computer and printing establishments. We do have this place we go to for cheap postcard printing and even tarpaulin printing, if a need for that arises.

We also do not use the refilled ink from ink refilling station so that we won’t have printer problems later on.

Music for Adolescents

I try to be a cool mom. One of the ways I see fit to do this is to listen to the songs they are currently listening to.

For daughters who play the piano, flute and guitar (no formal training except for music lessons with the flute in school) and a husband who is a gifted piano player, music is a part of our family.

I have a teenager, an adolescent son and a pre-adolescent daughter who have earbuds in their ears at times. Their preferences are not the usual pop and dance songs.

I do love their song choices (except for some, lol) because these are exactly the kind of music I prefer at times, a bit loud, fast and noisy.

Sometimes I joke them what could be the singers’ entertainer’s secret and that even if these songs are played over and over and the singers don’t get “tired”. Ok, private joke.

This study that Kids Who Like Unconventional Music More Likely to become Delinquent is a bit disturbing though. I sure do hope that kids who are into these music will not likely be delinquents.

Chichi

This is Chichi, our dog. She is an American Pit Bull Terrier.

Chichi

Contrary to beliefs that pit bulls are wild and fierce, Chichi is a doll. She is sweet and loves to have tummy rubs now and then.

Taking care of Chichi is easy because she is short-haired and does not need a single trip to a dog salon (rolls eyes). She is even-tempered though easily excitable when she sees other animals.

Investing

Investing is one thing that people with extra cash should do.

Why? Because wise investments keeps your money safe from being used to buy things that are not really necessary in your life.

My MIL invests in the stock market. She has a lot of stocks for more than two decades but it is only now, with online trading that she is perked up her interests.

There’s this person I know who buys gold and silver coins at the susan b anthony dollar at goldeneagle. They put these things in a bank’s safety deposit box for safekeeping along with their jewelry.

Me? I invest in the education of my children 😀
