How Much Does a New House Cost?

We saw a humongous house beside my parents’ house being built. It sits on two properties one of which was a former rice mill.

My mother said it was worth PhP50,000,000! I can’t believe its that expensive!Just last week, a client of my BIL who is an interior designer gave him a nod to look for a beachfront property/place to build a resort with that price.

Much as I wanted to, I was not able to take a decent photo of the house because we were in transit and because the fences were high.

Imagine that, in dollars that would be worth more than $1,000,000!

The hubby and I were discussing what kind of construction materials were used in that house to have it worth that much.

The interiors would be so lavish I guess, with branded materials that mean quality like Kohler sinks or fixtures from other countries. Like what? Italian ceramic tiles or maybe granite and marble from New England?

One thing for sure though, I want to see how it is in the inside once its finished.

As if I can go inside the house 😀

Gift-giving

What kinds of gifts did you give to your loved ones?

What kinds of gifts did you receive from them?

Gift-giving is a Christmas tradition that will always be there, no matter how people are, in terms of their economic standing because there are a lot of those who have lost their source of income and who are grappling to see the end of these challenges.

One of the most sought-after gifts for the last few years are tech gadgets and gizmos.

There are also those who go the old-fashion way of giving baked goodies like what we did to some of our relatives.

There are those who feel obligated to give expensive gifts especially to their children because these children seem to charm their way into having  their parents part with their hard-earned money.

There are those who got the surprise of their lives as they got engagement rings and would start planning the big day after the holidays.

What about those who got new cars or even new homes? Wow, definitely wow.

But have we thought about those who don’t get any gifts given out of love? They did have some but these were given out of pity. How did they celebrate their Christmas?

Family Reunions

Its that time of the year when famly reunions are scheduled.

There are times though when family members seem to have “drifted apart” not only because of distance but also because interests have been different from each other.

Apart from having meals together during reunions, what else is there to do?

Updating each other would be a bit difficult because there is so much to know and so much to share.

What about if the others are not interested in what others are saying?

Topics like fishing, blogging, work-related issues, conversion rate optimization, children’s developmental milestones and even knowing the latest in fashion are some of the topics where others will probably not be able to relate to.

Tops would be topics about childhood (mis)adventures, family jokes and singing. Of course, singing is one alternative thing to do, instead of just talking.

What do you do during family reunions?

Medium Rare Steak

I wrote my Food Friday entry today because we will be a bit busy tomorrow with school-related activities.

I had a thick slice of medium rare steak last Wednesday night during the annual Christmas party held at the manse of the owner of the intervention center where I work (part-time). We had this kind of food last year, same menu, same plate, please click here.

I chose the medium rare variety between the two types they were offering, had it smothered with a rich mushroom gravy sauce. The thick slice took over half the space of the plate! And to think that this was a big plate 😀

On my plate are buttered whole corn kernels, 2-3 T of garlic rice (can’t resist) and a little pasta carbonara.

I wanted to just put the steak on one plate and the others on a different plate but I didn’t. It would be difficult to walk back from the buffet table to our table holding two plates. Not to mention I would probably look like too hungry (which incidentally I was, lol!).

I wasn’t able to get good photos of my dinner plate because those sitting on with me on our table were giving me weird looks like I have gone insane taking photos of my food! 😀

If I have to eat dinners like this until the holidays are over, I might have to get me some Anoretix 😀

Desktop Peripherals

We have limited computer hardware at home: a desktop and two laptops. With three children who love to stay in and play with their computer games during weekends, hubby and I are left with watching DVD, doing house chores or reading for me and napping for the hubby.

Lately, we have been considering getting a new desktop, once the budget allows for it. Since hubby is the resident techie, so to speak, he plans to assemble the peripherals like hard disk, lcd monitor, power supply, motherboard, video card, LAN card, and anything and everything that can be attached to the desktop.

I’m thinking not of a desktop but a laptop so this can be brought anywhere but we will consider these things when the proper time comes.

Not Just Another One of Those Christmas Posts

There’s no denying that there is really no stopping Christmas Everywhere one looks, its almost as if the word Christmas is written on digital signage!

There’s no denying that a lot of families do not particularly expect to celebrate the holiday especially if they have been hit by these global economic crisis and have only simple plans to celebrate.

That is ok, I guess.

For me, Christmas is not about the food and celebrations, the shopping, the gifts and all things commercialized.

Christmas is about family, just as how it started with a family more than 2,000 years ago.

It is about the coming of God’s Son, Jesus to be with people so that He can teach us about love, faith and all things pertaining to the God.

Its about being humble, giving importance to the more important things in life and accepting one’s circumstances no matter what, without being bitter nor sad when material comforts seem to be lacking.

Sure, gift giving shows not only how much we value or think of our loved ones but this is not the only measure to show our love for them.
